REFLECTIVE JOURNAL WEEK 2

RED PANDA

Date : 18 February 2009
Time : 3.35pm

As I got a clearer picture of what Red Panda is about I was getting more and more eager to study more information about Red Pandas. This does not just help my general knowledge to improve but also helps my friends to know more about Red Pandas in my group PowerPoint presentation. As I was saying in my previous journal, that Red pandas cannot be bought to Singapore due to hot climate it shows that they are heat sensitive and refers to their behaviour. Red pandas are most active at Dawn and Dusk. I got to know that red pandas are very skillful and acrobatic animals that live predominantly in trees.

As a result, their population continues to decline due to Habitat Fragmentation. Habitat Fragmentation is the process of enviromental change important in evolution and conservation biology. By protecting the habitat,we can protect the Red Panda. The logging and other forms of forest degradation have upset the Nepal forest moisture and slow water runoff. Many Nepalese people count on the red panda’s habital for their survival. For example, Langtang National Park in Nepal is considered to be an important area for Red Panda, but 30,000 people live near the park and depend on its resources.

In southwest China the Red Panda is hunted for its fur and especially for its highly-valued bushy tail from which hats are produced. In the areas of China, where the Red Panda lives, their fur is often used for local cultural
ceremonies and in weddings the bridegroom traditionally carries the hide. The continuous clearing of the forests has significantly reduced the population. From this, I know that these animals are hardly found now days in this world. So we have try our level best not pollute their environment, not to destroy their habitat and Let them stay peacefully.
