Dear Mr Vincent,
Proposal to Upgrade Pulau Ubin
I,President of Green Plan 2012 Club, hereby sending in a proposal to upgrade Pulau Ubin. Recently, our "Green Plan 2012 Club" went on a tour to Pulau Ubin. During our journey, I happen to bump onto a few residents.
The residents whom I met have raced some idealistic thoughts to upgrade the environment of Pulau Ubin. One of the residents I met was Mr Mohammad Ismail Bin Adam who was the Headman of the Island, aged 74 who has been living in the island for the past 50 years. Due to the lack of medical facilities, Mr Ismail requested for a clinic. Children who often fall sick experience a long and tiring journey too seek medical attention. Young children attending school also encounter tedious journey using the bumboat to travel to attend school in the main island. He strongly feels that it is very inconvenient for them. He puts a humble request for a school to be built in Pulau Ubin to ease the burden for the children.
I also happen to meet a former owner of Kiosk for bicycle rental, aged 45, named Madam Chan Ah Mui. As for her, she requested for a good bus service, roads and infrastructure to make the place to be more accessible for the residents to have visitors without much difficulties. To kill the boredom, of the visitors she also feels that by having cycling tracks and nature trails it would enhance better outdoor activities. A young polytechnic who is in his 20s, named Mr Chandran Mohan feels that Pulau Ubin could be transformed Ubin into a 21st Century New town to enjoy the best of both worlds by having shopping facilities and for visitors and residents to enjoy nature in a more relaxed way of life.
One resident feels having a coffee stall would add an additional facilities for anyone who visits Pulau Ubin. She is Mrs Tan Li Lin, aged 32. She is currently a housewife and a part time hawker assistant. With her working experience, Mrs Tan feels that it is a need for a reliable water supply for the day trippers and the campers. As good water supply is important for everyone. But surprisingly, I also happen to bounce a young chap aged 16 who is currently an O' level student feels the opposite. His idea is to preserve and maintain Chek Jawa as it is. He feels that it may destroy the Nature Beauty of the island.
This trip of mine to Pulau Ubin has infact given me the golden opportunities to put forward to you the ideas and thought of the residents. I personally feel that there should be a mini level of upgrading should be done in Pulau Ubin to make it a better place for everyone to leave and enjoy. I hope you would consider the request of all the residents. Hope to hear a favorable reply from you as soon as possible. Thank you (:
Yours faithfully ,

Report Article On Natural Disaster

19th July 2009
Sichuan Devastating Earthquake
Disaster is something that happens without any sign of warning. The worst recent disaster that not only caused our hearts to ache but also saw the lost of many lives which happened on May 12th 2008.
The Sichuan earthquake measuring 7.9 on Ritcher scale hit Sichuan Province Western China killing about 70,000 people and leaving over 18,000 missing. Thousand of the earthquake's victims were children crushed in shoddily built school. Rescuers worked day and night to help the trapped victims. To our horror, nearly 900 teenagers were burried under a collapsed three story school building.
Premier Wen Jiabao, pushed all rescue team to experdiate on the rescue works. He advised them not to waste a single minute as one second would mean a child's life. Most parents lives were devastated, with the lost of their children. As it was China's policy of limiting most families of having one child, the students who died were often their parents only offspring.
The world leaders sympathised with the people of Sichuan and came forward to sent first aid help to China. The officals sped up food , water , medicine and other necessities to earthquake's stricken area. It was indeed a heart-breaking sight for us to report from there.

TERRORISM !

When we hear the word "terrorism" or "terrorist" we people feel goose bumps rising on our skin. As for me, terrorism is an unforgivable crime where innocent lives are taken away. Some of the terrorists do die in some of the attacks and they don't gain anythink from there. Though, terrorism is man-made disaster, the destruction is simliar to one of the natural disasters which is like
Tusnami where nobody ever predicted or thought that this waves would bring along many lives with them ! Nobody can ever predict or know when terrorism would happen. They would hijack anything they want. They could not be nabbed very easily. That's the scariest part in Terrorism.
So, we people have to stay alert and cautious. The meaning of Terrorism is the international use or threat to use violence against civilians and non-combatants, in order to achieve political goals. In my opinion, Man eating a man for power is the worst thing in the world. Terrorists are audacious.
To our understanding, Terrorism is the most critical issue facing our world today. Every human being are holding their lives in their hands worried about what is going to happen next if terrorism continues. As for Singapore, we have good judgement system where goverment take full responsibilty to protect Singapore from terrorist attack. Our police are very alertive and they would manhunt for suspecting person very intensively. They are very MILITANT.We can see that our goverment is doing their part to prevent this from happening. As we know, when we take transport such as MRT, Buses, etc. we can see the posters or reminder saying that " If you look out for any suspicious looking object or person immidiately inform the police."
These are created by our goverment to ensure our safety. We have to do our part by helping them. In my point of view, I am worried that Sinagpore have a huge chance to be attacked by Terrorist, as Sinagpore is just an small island. Anything can happen anytime !

English Summary ( COFFEE)
According to legend, Coffee was founded by Ethiopian goatherd. For African tribesman, Coffee is just an ordinary food and beverage. Now, it is sold in large quantities worldwide and representing as one of the top in value in trade. All, Coffee exporting countries depend on coffee as the main income and living. Many people loved coffee. In the nineties, a Frost killed almost half of Brazil’s coffee trees which changed the prices drastically. Three years later, frost hit Brazil causing every tree lost result in no income for three to five years. The income loss is very big that fifteen million trees were lost. Brazil had to stop the export of coffee. Importers bought in it bulk afraid of the shortage. Prices increase and farmers planted more coffee which was in abundant and the prices fell. Farmers began substituting coffee for other crops. Both producers and consumers decided to limit production to what the market can afford and sell at an agreeable price.

English Reflective Journal
On my entire 5 weeks reflective journal, I realized that I learnt a wide range of things. My task was basically on Red Pandas and Great Cats. In my first two Reflective Journals I learnt and wrote about one interesting animal which is called Red panda and on my last three Reflective Journals I learnt about The Great cats. It is a very wide chapter and I found much information. According to my journals, I knew that the greatest similarity between the Great Cats and the Red Pandas is the decline of their population which is a very worrying issue. Red Pandas are in danger of extinction due to the disappearance of the forests and hunting for their highly-valued tails and fur. It is quite tough to estimate their whole population. As for the Great Cats their majour threat is on poaching, habitat loss and loss of prey species.
My research on Red Pandas and Great Cats has opened up my mind to a better understanding on accepting the endangered species for what they are, especially Great cats. In the beginning I started to hate Great Cats because they are carnivores. I didn’t like their idea of killing other animals to satisfy their hunger. But after my search I begin to understand that their nature of living is such that nobody can blame them for being carnivores.
When talking about herbivores which are the Red Pandas, we may think that they are having an easy life by sitting on the trees compare to any human life. From my research, I got to know that humans are causing them their environmental problems. These really change my perspectives towards them. Like every human, they do have the rights to live and we should not be a threat to them in any way. If we cannot contribute to their well-being at least we should not destroy what they have built for themselves.
If I were to wonder how I can help to preserve this species, I came across this website name The Greats Cats of Indiana. They are the people who are willing to help provide a safe, healthy and caring home captive big cat and help them by providing donation. I could start of a donation drive campaign, where I could send the donation money to the (GCI) Great cats Of Indiana. The starting point of the donation can be from a school where all the students and teachers can contribute. We can also create awareness from Singapore informing the extinction of the endangered species to other countries and also advising them not to kill them or destroy their habitat.
As man needs to understand and love each other to have a peaceful life we should also show these same love and understanding towards these endangered species. Killing of these species for their skin and fur should be condemned by everyone. Endangered species have long been associated with success, admiration, supremacy and power. These animals are unique in their own way. “Prevention is better than cure” so let’s just prevent this species from hunting or being killed. This could make the world a better place not only for us but also for the endangered species.
