Sichuan Devastating Earthquake
Disaster is something that happens without any sign of warning. The worst recent disaster that not only caused our hearts to ache but also saw the lost of many lives which happened on May 12th 2008.
The Sichuan earthquake measuring 7.9 on Ritcher scale hit Sichuan Province Western China killing about 70,000 people and leaving over 18,000 missing. Thousand of the earthquake's victims were children crushed in shoddily built school. Rescuers worked day and night to help the trapped victims. To our horror, nearly 900 teenagers were burried under a collapsed three story school building.
Premier Wen Jiabao, pushed all rescue team to experdiate on the rescue works. He advised them not to waste a single minute as one second would mean a child's life. Most parents lives were devastated, with the lost of their children. As it was China's policy of limiting most families of having one child, the students who died were often their parents only offspring.
The world leaders sympathised with the people of Sichuan and came forward to sent first aid help to China. The officals sped up food , water , medicine and other necessities to earthquake's stricken area. It was indeed a heart-breaking sight for us to report from there.
