Dear Mr Vincent,
Proposal to Upgrade Pulau Ubin
I,President of Green Plan 2012 Club, hereby sending in a proposal to upgrade Pulau Ubin. Recently, our "Green Plan 2012 Club" went on a tour to Pulau Ubin. During our journey, I happen to bump onto a few residents.
The residents whom I met have raced some idealistic thoughts to upgrade the environment of Pulau Ubin. One of the residents I met was Mr Mohammad Ismail Bin Adam who was the Headman of the Island, aged 74 who has been living in the island for the past 50 years. Due to the lack of medical facilities, Mr Ismail requested for a clinic. Children who often fall sick experience a long and tiring journey too seek medical attention. Young children attending school also encounter tedious journey using the bumboat to travel to attend school in the main island. He strongly feels that it is very inconvenient for them. He puts a humble request for a school to be built in Pulau Ubin to ease the burden for the children.
I also happen to meet a former owner of Kiosk for bicycle rental, aged 45, named Madam Chan Ah Mui. As for her, she requested for a good bus service, roads and infrastructure to make the place to be more accessible for the residents to have visitors without much difficulties. To kill the boredom, of the visitors she also feels that by having cycling tracks and nature trails it would enhance better outdoor activities. A young polytechnic who is in his 20s, named Mr Chandran Mohan feels that Pulau Ubin could be transformed Ubin into a 21st Century New town to enjoy the best of both worlds by having shopping facilities and for visitors and residents to enjoy nature in a more relaxed way of life.
One resident feels having a coffee stall would add an additional facilities for anyone who visits Pulau Ubin. She is Mrs Tan Li Lin, aged 32. She is currently a housewife and a part time hawker assistant. With her working experience, Mrs Tan feels that it is a need for a reliable water supply for the day trippers and the campers. As good water supply is important for everyone. But surprisingly, I also happen to bounce a young chap aged 16 who is currently an O' level student feels the opposite. His idea is to preserve and maintain Chek Jawa as it is. He feels that it may destroy the Nature Beauty of the island.
This trip of mine to Pulau Ubin has infact given me the golden opportunities to put forward to you the ideas and thought of the residents. I personally feel that there should be a mini level of upgrading should be done in Pulau Ubin to make it a better place for everyone to leave and enjoy. I hope you would consider the request of all the residents. Hope to hear a favorable reply from you as soon as possible. Thank you (:
Yours faithfully ,
Mesanti Devi
