Summary [ Maria & Janina }
Today Janina Pietrasiak, 74, and Maria Lopuszanska, 79 meet daily and help each other out. Both lives alone and are not affluent. Maria’s parents were anti-Nazi underground activists, Janina and her mother was sheltered by them. Janina’s mother died of tuberculosis. Janina, clung desperately to her new family and was baptized to become part of the family to avoid being detected and killed by the Nazis. She refused to live with her Uncle in U.S. They fend their selves due to the Warsaw Uprising. Maria's father fall sick and her mother was fighting against the Nazis. Maria was like a mother to the younger Janina. Janina lost both parents. Both the girls suffered in cancer. Maria is a widow, Janina was separated from her husband. Janina telephoned the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum in Jerusalem to help recognized Maria's parents for saving her during WII. This helped to improve Maria's financial situation.
